Dr. Joseph Brun DiGiorgio, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023, in Sacramento, CA. He was born on August 4, 1932, in San Francisco, CA. Joseph was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, neighbor, partner, and teacher. He is survived by his children: Joseph Brun DiGiorgio Jr., Ann DiGiorgio Khan, Edward Valdis DiGiorgio, James Irwin Bourbeau, Kathleen DiGiorgio Wright, Carol DiGiorgio Kensiski, James Salvatore DiGiorgio, and Heather Frances Bourbeau. He was also survived by his sister, Carmela Catherine (CeCe) DiGiorgio Brooks, and eleven grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Brun DiGiorgio, father, Salvatore Armond DiGiorgio, sister, Paula DiGiorgio Brooks, his first wife Velta Erdmanis DiGiorgio, and his second wife Carol Bourbeau DiGiorgio.

Joseph had an impressive educational background, having attended Wenatchee High School and Johns Hopkins University. He met his first wife Velta when giving tours of campus to new students. They both received their PhDs in Chemistry while studying together at JHU. He was initiated into Tau Beta Pi in 1954, and would later join and serve as an officer in Phi Kappa Phi.

Joseph was a great nephew of Joseph DiGiorgio, founder of the family named international fruit company of the 20th Century. He worked in the company orchards near Wenatchee, WA with his high school friends, and with his father at the fruit exchange auctions at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Joseph developed an early interest in science, including engineering rapid exothermic reactions while in High School. While at JHU he converted his family’s dog kennel into his own private chemistry lab where he entertained family and neighborhood children with his experiments.

John Gotti was an infamous mob boss, but he also had a large family, including his wife Victoria DiGiorgio and their five children.

A lifelong New Yorker — born in The Bronx and raised in Brooklyn — Gotti was involved in gang activity from a young age, leading him to eventually become the boss of the Gambino crime family. Gotti met his future wife at a bar when he was just 18.

While DiGiorgio already had one child from a previous relationship, the pair fell in love and ended up having five children, Angela, Victoria, John Jr., Frank (who died in 1980) and Peter.

One of their daughters, Victoria Gotti, went on to extend her father’s legacy by starring in the reality show Growing Up Gotti in the early 2000s.

Speaking to the New York Post in 1999, DiGiorgio opened up about her relationship with Gotti. “I have spent 39 years of my life with him and God willing, I will spend the next 39 years of my life with him,” she said. “Is John a saint? Oh, no, I don’t think so. But I love him."

The couple were very young; DiGiorgio, born in 1942, was just 16. Gotti, born in 1940, was 18. The pair married on March 6, 1962, in New York.

Per FBI documents, DiGiorgio had been in a previous relationship and had a child when she met Gotti, but given her private relationship with the media, she has never addressed it.

DiGiorgio was born on Dec. 5, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She has Russian roots on her paternal side and Italian ancestry on her mother's side.

Frank Di Giorgio (dij-OR-joh, Italian:[diˈdʒordʒo]) is a former Canadian politician. He sat on Toronto City Council and represented Ward 12 York South—Weston from 2000 to 2018. Prior to the amalgamation of Toronto, Di Giorgio was a member of the North York City Council from 1985 to 1997, representing Ward 4.

Background

With a mathematics degree from McMaster University, Di Giorgio was a high school math teacher before entering politics.

Political career

North York Council

Di Giorgio was elected as Ward 4 Councillor to North York's council in the 1985 Toronto election defeating Barb Shiner. He was a close ally of Mayor Mel Lastman.

During his time as a North York Councillor, Di Giorgio served as a member of the Executive Committee and chaired all major standing committees, including Works, Transportation, Planning Advisory, Library Board, Parks and Recreation, and Capital Planning. His contribution as founding director of the Ford Performing Arts Centre and his help in creating the Capital Planning Committee brought both a knowledgeable voice and prudent change to North York.

Toronto City Council

In his role as Toronto city councillor, Di Giorgio was appointed budget chief under Mayor Rob Ford in 2013.

During the mayoralty of John Tory, he also held important Council committee positions. He was a member of the Executive Committee and sat on the Board of Directors for Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) as the Mayor's designate.
