Babatunde Fashola
Babatunde Raji Fashola, 28 June 1963, is Nigeria's present Federal Minister of Power, Works and Housing and was the 13th Governor of Lagos State, spending exactly eight years in Office (May 29 2007 - May 29 2015) having been re-elected in the year 2011. He was preceded by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and succeeded by Akinwunmi Ambode, both members of the All Progressives Congress, the party to which Fashola also belongs. On November 11th 2015, he was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to be the Minister of Power, Works and Housing.
Descending from a long line of historically prominent people in Lagos, Babatunde Raji Fashola was born on 28 June 1963. He attended Birch Freeman High school Lagos and Igbobi College Lagos. He studied Law at the University of Benin from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws, LL.B. (Hons), degree in 1987.
After undergoing the mandatory NYSC programme in Bendel State ( Now Edo State), Fashola returned to Lagos and joined Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe and Belgore; the law firm of K.O.Tinubu & Company where he had a distinguished career as a Lawyer.
In his role as Managing Partner and Lead Counsel, Fashola successfully pleaded many cases at various courts, including the Supreme Court, earning him a deserved spot amidst Nigerian Elite Lawyers in August 2004 when he was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria [SAN], the nation’s highest legal distinction and honour for lawyer. Babatunde Fashola is also a Patron of the Law Students Association of the University of Benin and he is the first member of the Nigerian Law School graduating class of 1988 to be conferred with the Rank of Senior Advocate.

Fashola was born on 28 June 1963, in Lagos at Island Maternity Hospital into the family of Ademola Fashola, a former journalist with the Daily Times of Nigeria, and Olufunke Agunbiade, a nurse. He has 12 siblings. He was called to the Nigerian Bar as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in November 1988 after completing the professional training programme at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos which he undertook between 1987 and 1988. Fashola, a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, has received awards and certificates of merit including the Distinguished Alumnus Award conferred on him by the University of Benin Alumni Association. He is also a recipient of Lagos State public service club Platinum Award for outstanding contribution towards development.
