Kambuas biography

Born and raised in Kenya, Kambua is a gospel artiste in the world of afro-fused music. Kambua’s love for music was evident from a tender age and has developed into a career over the years. Kambua has worked as an actress for Heartstrings Ensemble in Kenya. She has also been the voice for commercials such as Delmonte, Mumias Sugar, and Sunlight. Before pursuing a solo career, Kambua worked as a background vocalist for various artists. In the summer of 2007 Kambua completed a performance program at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. In 2008 she completed a BA in music at Ambrose University College, in Calgary, AB- her major being classical voice. In 2009 Kambua was crowned FEMALE ARTISTE OF THE YEAR at the Groove Awards, held in Kenya. She also has been awarded the 2008 AFRO FUSION FEMALE ARTISTE OF THE YEAR. Kambua's long-term goals include being a humanitarian voice, for women and children. Kambua is currently living in Kenya and working as a TV host for a local gospel music show- RAUKA, on Citizen TV.

    Kambua Manundu Mathu, popularly known as Kambua is a talented Kenyan gospel artist, songwriter, Onscreen personality, TV host and philanthropist. She is well-known for hosting “Kubamba”, Kenya’s most watched TV Show on Citizen Tv, alongside with Timeless Noel, DJ Gee Gee and DJ Moz.

    The singer is gifted with an heavenly voice. She uses her Music to spread the gospel of Christ across the Eastern African countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and beyond.

    Kambua made her career debut on the song titled “Bado Nasimama”. The song was released on the 29th of January 2016, under her independent record label “Kambua Records”. The song topped Kenya Gospel Music Charts for 14 weeks and had over 5 million streams across several digital music platform including Apple Music, Spotify, Boomplay, Audiomack and Google Music.

    Kambua Mathu was born on the 10th of November 1986 in Nairobi, Kenya. She was born onto the family of Professor Manundu and Evangelist Lois Manundu. Her parents were devoted pastors and founder of Tabibu Ministries. Kambua is the Second amongst the three children of her parents.

    Kambua Mathu loved music from her early age. She began her educational career at Kianda Primary School, thence she proceeded to Lukenya Academy, where she finished her high school. Thereafter, the singer proceeded to Ambrose University in Calgary, Canada where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Music.

    Kambua Mathu is happily married to her longtime lover, Pastor Jackson Mathu. They both tied the knot in 2012, and their marriage was blessed by both families.

    Kambua Mathu, known simply as Kambua, is a prominent Kenyan gospel artist renowned for her blend of Afro-fusion and classical influences. Born into a religious family, she was raised in a musical environment where Kamba and Swahili hymns were a significant part of her upbringing. She attended Kianda Primary School, where she participated in the school choir, and later continued her music journey at Lukenya Academy. Her education led her to study classical music at Ambrose University in Calgary, Canada. Kambua's musical career began with the release of her debut album Nishikilie in 2007, which featured the popular single "Nishikilie," a song of hope and deliverance. She followed this with her second album, Nyumbani, in 2008, which incorporated a diverse range of genres, including Urban, Afro-fusion, and Kwaito. Throughout her career, Kambua has won several accolades, including the Kisima Female Artist of the Year award in 2008 and Groove Female Artist of the Year in 2009. Despite facing personal and financial challenges, including her father's battle with blindness, Kambua's faith and perseverance have been central to her story and music. Kambua is also known for her role as a wife to Pastor Jackson Mathu, with whom she has two children.

    Kambua Manundu is the second born of three children of Professor Manundu and  Evangelist Lois Manundu who are also the co-founders of Tabibu Ministries.She  was born and raised in Nairobi.


    Kambua Earlier life


    Kambua’s childhood was all about fun and games. Unlike the lady she is today, she was a tom boy,who loved playing alongside her brothers.


    While attending Kianda Primary school, she was involved in school choirs and mass activities which strengthened her religious upbringing.


    She then attended secondary school at Lukenya Academy where her love for music grew as she ventured into solo performances.


    Despite occasional financial difficulties, she was fortunate enough to complete her secondary school after which she joined Heart strings theatre and performed in shows including ‘Family Business’ and ‘Something’s burning’.


    Around the same time she joined her church praise and worship team and did
    background vocals for top artistes like Mbuvi, Bahati and Kavutha.


    In the quest for higher education, she had been applying into various universities and she finally got an invitation to the Ambrose University in Calgary, Canada to pursue music.


    This gave her much needed exposure and a chance to sing alongside the legendary Angelique Kidjo in concert.


    When she was done with her degree, she visited Kenya on vacation, to the realization that songs from her album ‘Nishikilie’ were doing well.


    Rather than leaving what she had already started, Kambua decided to concentrate on her music career in Kenya.
