Havoc Demon Hunter Stat Priority

Versatility > Mastery > Haste > Critical Strike

Our main focus should be on Versatility. Versatility adds a combination of both offense and defense to our character, which is naturally obtained through our gearing process.

Beyond this stat, you’ll want to prioritize Mastery. This stat increases our movement speed and Chaos damage, and with Any Means Necessary added into the mix, this affects all of our abilities. This makes it almost necessary to maximize this stat so you can throw out the most amount of damage possible.

After Mastery, Haste is also pretty important to have, as it synergizes nicely with our Shattered Destiny and Cycle of Hatred combo to increase our uptime in Demon Form.

Finally, we have Critical Strike being our weakest stat out of the bunch, as this doesn’t really synergize with what our toolkit currently offers.

The Basics of Stats for Vengeance Demon Hunter

The defensive stat priority for Vengeance Demon Hunter is as follows:

  1. Agility;
  2. Haste;
  3. Critical Strike/Versatility;
  4. Mastery.

Your stat priority extends to enchants and consumables, as well as gear. For an in-depth look at the best gear for the current tier or enchants, consumables, and simulations, please visit the links below.

There are not any set stat numbers to shoot for. You do not go for a certain percentage of anything. For DPS, it is recommended that you simulate the gear you have to help figure out which stats gives you the most damage.

For survival, you will want to prioritize item level beyond all, with a rough priority of secondary stats as above while still maintaining a roughly equal spread of stats.

Entering The War Within, you will have significantly lower amounts of secondary stats available, but you may still reach diminishing returns if you have gear which only focuses on one stat. Diminishing returns for each stat starts at the points in the list below.

  • Haste: 19800 Rating
  • Critical Strike: 21000 Rating
  • Mastery: 21000 Rating
  • Versatility: 23400 Rating

As you should not simply go based on the stat priority above; instead, here are a few general rules for stats versus item level.

  1. You cannot get universal stat weights for survivability.
  2. A 5+ item level increase almost always means the new item is worth equipping.
  3. At a 3-item level difference, choose the item that better fits the stat priority or just go for item level; the difference will likely be very small.
  4. Rings/necks, tier sets, and trinkets do not follow these rules outside of big gaps in item level.
  5. Always gem/enchant for your best stat.

These statistics have been obtained by combining common sense, in-game testing, and simulations using SimulationCraft.

    The Basics of Stats for Havoc Demon Hunters

    Havoc Demon Hunter has slightly different stat priorities depending on whether you are focused on single-target or AoE scenarios. We recommend the AoE priority for open-world gameplay and dungeons as it can fit into more encounter types.

    2.

    Fel-Scarred Havoc Demon Hunter Stat Priority

    While playing Fel-Scarred, your stat priority is as follows in all situations:

    1. Mastery = Critical Strike;
    2. Agility;
    3. Haste;
    4. Versatility.

    Due to the strength of both Know Your Enemy and Any Means Necessary, both Mastery and Critical Strike are roughly equal in value, and slightly above Agility per point. Aim to stack these two stats as much as possible.

    After that, Haste provides additional resources and cooldown reduction, making it more realistic to cycle through Fury. It is the third stat to consider.

    Versatility simply has lower bonuses per point than other options, so is generally avoided, but not completely neglected due to the proc damage scaling.

    3.

    Aldrachi Reaver Havoc Demon Hunter Stat Priority

    While playing Aldrachi Reaver, your stat priority is as follows in all situations:

    1. Critical Strike = Agility;
    2. Mastery;
    3. Versatility;
    4. Haste.

    Know Your Enemy keeps Critical Strike as the focus due to the additional multiplier it provides, alongside working with strong Season 1 trinkets. Any Means Necessary puts Mastery close behind, making it the second-best stat to focus on thanks to the Chaos damage conversion for most of the kit.

    Haste is slightly behind due to the lack of cooldown reduction on some key abilities such as Essence Break and Eye Beam. Alongside this, there is also no strong hook elsewhere in the kit compared to the above options with additional scaling multipliers.

    Versatility falls behind the above two stats but still outperforms Haste due to its lack of strong interaction with the AoE build's toolkit.

    Hey Everyone, so I’m a returning player from WotLK. Trying to get back into the swing of things and trying out DH.
    My issue is that according to IcyVeins, our dps for Havoc relies heavily upon our primary stat which is agility. They go to show that the priority list goes

    1. Versatility
    2. Critical Strike = Haste
    3. Agility
    4. Mastery
      They go on to say mastery is terrible etc. what I don’t understand is why Agility is listed at 3rd priority if it’s our primary dps boost. I’m sure I’m missing something, can anyone clarify for me?

    I’ll point you to this thread Stat weight changes

    In short sim yourself because the stat weights listed on Icy just a lazy follow this.

    Thank you for the link! I’ve seen people mentioning “siming” themselves around these forums. Seems like it’s an add on to calculate best stats for given situations I guess. I’ll have to check it out.

    Without knowing too much it also seems like things are striving towards a close balance of stats. Guess I won’t have to worry about it while leveling, just won’t go all in for any particular one. Thanks again.

    Our raw DPS, the base damage of all of our abilities, scales based on our agility, yes. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s always our top stat. For most of the first tier, it was, but it’s started to fall behind several of our stats as we’ve geared up. Part of this is that, compared to prior expansions, our gear has more primary stat and less secondary stat due to our 3 Azerite pieces (which have 0 secondary and a truckload of primary). This alters the general ratio of primary-to-secondary and tends to shift our primary down the list a bit, and this effect is more pronounced as we get better gear.

    Aside from that, Marakurta is correct, the stat weights listed in those guides are rules of thumb for people that don’t really care about optimizing. I often use them on a
