Corbin Dean Bernsen is an American actor best known for his roles as Arnold Becker on L.A. Law and Henry Spencer on Psych. He has also had regular roles on such shows as General Hospital and Cuts, and has directed several films as well.

Biography[]

Bernsen was born on September 7, 1954 in North Hollywood, California to father Harry Bernsen Jr. and mother Jeanne Cooper, who is a veteran soap opera actress who appears on the show The Young and the Restless. Bernsen graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1972. Bernsen is a "double Bruin", achieving both a BA in Theater Arts and an MFA in Playwriting from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

After appearing for two years on the soap opera Ryan's Hope, Bernsen was cast in his breakthrough role as lawyer Arnold Becker on the hit show L.A. Law in 1986. Bernsen's role on the show earned him many Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, as well as guest appearances on shows such as Seinfeld and Saturday Night Live. Bernsen was one of only a couple actors who stayed on L.A. Law through the entire tenure of the show. 

Bernsen also appeared in starring roles such as Dr. Alan Feinstone in horror film The Dentist and Roger Dorn in comedy film Major League. He had a recurring role as John Durant on General Hospital for two years before the character was murdered. In 2006, Bernsen took the role of Henry Spencer on USA Network comedy Psych, where he plays main character Shawn Spencer's retired cop father.

Bernsen has been married to British actress Amanda Pays (who appears as Henry's date Susan B. in Psych S2E15 "Black and Tan: A Crime of Fashion") since 1988, and the pair have four children.

Wilma Jeanne Cooper (October 25, 1928 – May 8, 2013) was an American actress, best known for her role as Katherine Chancellor on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless (1973–2013). At the time of her death, she was eighth on the all-time list of longest-serving soap opera actors in the United States. She also guest starred as an episode's leading lady in dozens of television series in the 1950s and 1960s. She was the mother of three children, the eldest being actor Corbin Bernsen.

Early life

Jeanne Cooper was born in Taft, California, the youngest of three children of Albert Troy Cooper and his wife, the former Sildeth Evelyn Moore. The family lived in Kern County for several years, first in Taft until 1942 and then in Bakersfield. Her mother died on August 21, 1944, the year before Jeanne graduated from Taft Union High School. Her father lived for several more decades, dying on April 11, 1986.

Career

Film and television work

Cooper began her acting career in the 1950s, performing initially as a supporting player in films with stars like Maureen O'Hara, Glenn Ford, Tony Curtis, and Henry Fonda. Her first film role was as Myra in the 1953 western film, The Redhead from Wyoming. She later appeared in small roles in The Man from the Alamo, Over-Exposed, 5 Steps to Danger, Rock All Night, House of Women, 13 West Street, The Intruder, Black Zoo, The Glory Guys, Tony Rome and Kansas City Bomber.

Law, as Dr. Alan Feinstone in The Dentist, as retired police detective Henry Spencer on the USA Networkcomedy-drama series Psych, and as Roger Dorn in the films Major League, Major League II, and Major League: Back to the Minors. He also appeared regularly on The Resident, The Curse, General Hospital, and Cuts, and has had intermittent appearances on The Young and the Restless.

Early life

Bernsen was born in North Hollywood, the eldest son of producer Harry Bernsen Jr. and soap actress Jeanne Cooper. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1972. Bernsen is also a "double Bruin", having received both a BA in Theatre Arts in 1977 and an MFA in Playwriting in 1979 from UCLA.

Acting

After a two-year appearance on the soap opera Ryan's Hope, Bernsen was cast as lawyer Arnold Becker on the Steven Bochco television series L.A. Law in 1986. The series became a hit, and the role earned him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, appearances on magazine covers, and guest-starring roles on Seinfeld and The Larry Sanders Show. He remained on L.A. Law for the entire run of the show, until it ended in 1994. He played the lead actor in the two-season, NASA-themed series The Cape in 1996–97.

Bernsen appeared with British actor Bruce Payne in the films Kounterfeit and Aurora: Operation Intercept. He starred as the title character, Dr. Alan Feinstone, in the horror film The Dentist and its sequel. Bernsen was also cast as prima donna third baseman Roger Dorn in the sports comedy Major League
