Akbar Ali Khan
Akbar Ali Khan (born ) studied History in Dhaka University and Economics in Queens University, Canada (MA and PhD). Dr. Khan had been a career civil servant since , actively participated in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in and was sentenced in absentia by military rules to fourteen years rigorous imprisonment. He served in highest positions in the Government for about ten years and retired as Cabinet Secretary. He also held the position of Alternate Executive Director in World Bank. After retirement, he established the Center for Governance Studies in BRAC University as its first Director. He was an Advisor in the Caretaker Government () and subsequently resigned. Khan has several publications and a number of research articles on governance, economics, water resources, rural development and history of Bangladesh in national and international academic journals. He was awarded the Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Gold Medal for his book Discovery of Bangladesh: Explorations into Dynamics of a Hidden Nation (Dhaka: UPL, ) in His book Pararthoparatar Arthaniti (Economics of Altruism) (Dhaka: UPL, ) was widely acclaimed as a significant contribution to economics in Bengali. Dr. Khan was awarded Honorary Fellowship by Bangla Academy for his contribution to economics.

Dr. Malait Mathur is a senior lecturer in English and teaches British, American and New Literatures as well as English Language and Phonetics to undergraduates and postgraduates. She holds a Ph.D degree in Australian Literature and visited Australian for 3 weeks on the invitation of the Australia-India Council and interacted with academics across the country. She has won awards for translation from Tamil and Hindi to English and regularly contributes articles on fine arts, humour and social issues, book reviews to national magazines and newspapers, apart from writing for academic journals and books on criticism. She is also supervising the writing of theses of research scholars working towards a Ph.D. degree. Her areas of interest include Indian writing in English and women's writing. She has presented papers on Australian Literature, the Teaching of English and Translation at International conferences.

Akbar Ali Khan ( – 8 September ) was a Bangladeshi economist and educationist who served as a bureaucrat until He was a sub-divisional officer of Habiganj during the Bangladesh Liberation War when he decided to join the war. Later he served as an official of the Mujibnagar Government. After independence, he rejoined the civil service and reached the highest post of Cabinet Secretary. In the meanwhile, he also worked as a university teacher. Towards the end of , he became one of the advisers of the Caretaker Government led by President Iajuddin Ahmed. He resigned along with three other advisers, namely, Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury, C M Shafi Sami and Sultana Kamal on the grounds of dissatisfaction with President Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed caretaker government. According to them, there was no scope to contribute in the caretaker government to create a congenial atmosphere for holding a free and fair election. In October , the Government of Bangladesh constituted a Regulatory Reforms Commission (RRC) with him as the chair.
Early life and education
Khan was born in Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria, a sub-division of the-then Comilla district. He attended Nabinagar Pilot High School. He passed from Dhaka College in He then studied history at the University of Dhaka and completed his bachelor's and master's from there in and respectively, with first class, topping the list on both the occasions. Before joining the then Civil Services of Pakistan he served as a teacher in BUET for some time. After a foundation course at the Civil Service Academy in Lahore (–68), he was posted as the sub-divisional officer (SDO) of now defunct sub-district Habiganj in His uncle Yakub Ali Khan was a former Gov High official.
Career
During Bangladesh liberation war
Khan actively participated in the civil disobedience movement in March before the commencement of the war of Ali Akbar Khan Ali Akbar was born into a family steeped in the traditions of Indian court music. The family music ancestry dates back to the 16th century, and his father was court musician to the local maharaja. Musicians flocked to learn from the elder Khan, including the sitarist Ravi Shankar. Ali Akbar concentrated on the sarod, a northern Indian lute played with a bow. Ali Akbar himself became court musician to the Maharaja of Jodhpur until the maharaja's death. At the request of violinist Yehudi Menuhin, Ali Akbar came to the United States in , where he made the first western recording of Indian classical music, as well as the first U.S. television performance of Indian music. Khan founded the Ali Akbar College of Music in Calcutta, India, with branches in California and Switzerland. Khan has composed music for films including the first Merchant-Ivory film, The Householder,Devi by Satyajit Ray, and Bernardo Bertolucci's Little Buddha. Among his many awards and honors, Ali Akbar has received a MacArthur Foundation grant and the National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.
