INTRODUCTION:

Many of us have heard about our 11th President of India; Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, but not many of
us are aware of who he actually was.

I have taken up Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam as my topic for the presentation because he is one of
those individuals who has grown in a very influential manner and he is one of those people that
all the segments of generation look up to.

Life of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam has been one of those inspiring stories that we, the aspiring
lawyers, should be aware of.

His journey from a young child born in a Tamil- Muslim family to the 11th President of India is
something we should know and be proud of.

Not many people are actually aware of what, who and how he was, before becoming the 11th
President of India.

Not many of us know about his achievements in different areas of politics, science, and
aerospace or for that matter, in many other areas.

He was known as the Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic
missile and launch vehicle technology.

My presentation is an effort to make my fellow mates aware about Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and his
contributions to the Indian society.

``WINGS OF FIRE'': Autobiography of A P J Kalam, India's`` Missile Man'' President

ORIENTATION -1

It is interesting to know that the bows found, during archaeological excavations at different sites in the country, reveal that Indians used composite bows made of wood, sinew, and horn as early as the eleventh century, at least 500 years before such bows were made in medieval Europe. The versatility of composites, in the sense that they possess very desirable structural, thermal, electrical, chemical and mechanical properties, fascinated me. I was so enthused with these man-made materials that I was in a hurry to know everything about them almost overnight. I used to read up everything available on related topics. I was particularly interested in the glass and carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) composites.

An FRP composite is composed of an inorganic fibre woven into a matrix that encloses it and gives the component its bulk form. In February 1969, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited Thumba to dedicate TERLS to the International Space Science Community. On this occasion, she commissioned the country's first filament winding machine in our laboratory. This event brought my team, which included CR Satya, PN Subramanian and MN Satyanara-yana, great satisfaction. We made highstrength glass cloth laminates to build non-magnetic payload housings and flew them in two-stage sounding rockets. We also wound and test flew rocket motor casings of up to 360 mm diameter.

Slowly, but surely, two Indian rockets were born at Thumba. They were christened Rohini and Menaka, after the two mythological dancers in the court of Indra, the king of the sky. The Indian payloads no longer needed to be launched by French rockets. Could this have been done but for the atmosphere of trust and commitment which Prof. Sarabhai had created at INCOSPAR? He brought into use each person's knowledge and skills. He made every man feel directly involved in problem solvi

Autobiography of Apj Abdul Kalam

-Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam-

It is hard to find a selfless person in today's egocentric world, like Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen
Abdul Kalam. Dr. Kalam was born in poor family of an Island of South India on 15th Oct. 1931. His
father Jainulabdeen Marakayar was a poor traditional small boat builder and his mother was house
wife in small village of Rameshwaram in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India.

Invigoration from teachers :

Being a part of the hand to mouth family Kalam started working in his early childhood. After the
completion of his day to day studies in the school he started to distribute newspapers to help his
father. During his school days he was just like an average student but unlike other students his
favorite subject was mathematics so that is why he was considered as brilliant and hardworking
student in the school. Dr. Kalam always remained thankful to his teachers, according to him his
entire life is greatly influenced by his brilliant teachers. In his various lectures he referred about his
favorite teacher Shri Sivasubramaniya, who uses phenomena of nature to teach students with live
real examples. One real life example of bird flight given by his teacher Shri Sivasubramaniya
became his life mission. By following his dream by work harder and harder he became the Rocket
Engineer & and a successful technologist. During studying in high school he was greatly inspired
by an another teacher Mr. Iyadurai Solomon who disclosed him regarding the three spiritual secret
forces of life to achieve anything in life and that were desire, expectation & belief.

Higher Engineering Education

Regarding his college life in the year 1950 Dr. Kalam had joined Saint Joseph's College of
Tiruchirappalli of South India and then enrolled with University of Madras from where awarded
with his bachelor degree in physics in the year 1954. After completing the graduation he had joined
Madras Institute of Technology. At MIT Dr
